If you are truly a beginner, this book is a great starting off point。 There is a comprehensive list of critical tools and techniques。I would gladly buy it for anyone wanting to learn the skill。DISCLAIMER: A digital copy of this book was provided by NETGALLERY in exchange for my fair and honest review。

Truly a great beginner book, FIRST TIME JEWELRY MAKING contains sooo much information and guidance it’s almost overwhelming。 Detailed explanations of each tool, and how to use them。 Focused exercises on things I wished I had really practiced in the beginning of my own jewelry making。 Overall, definitely a book I would even keep in my library for when I do need refresher information along the way。

From beginning to end, this book details what a first time jewelry maker will need。 I myself find it overwhelming on how to construct jewelry items。 I don't know where to begin, I have no idea what to get, or materials or tools I'll need。 The author goes in to great detail on what tools you'll need what they do and how to use them。 The materials you may want to work with and how to work with them。 The author also narrates the different types of equipment you can use, and safety precautions and i From beginning to end, this book details what a first time jewelry maker will need。 I myself find it overwhelming on how to construct jewelry items。 I don't know where to begin, I have no idea what to get, or materials or tools I'll need。 The author goes in to great detail on what tools you'll need what they do and how to use them。 The materials you may want to work with and how to work with them。 The author also narrates the different types of equipment you can use, and safety precautions and items you may need to use。 The book provides examples on how to create specific jewelry pieces。 Lists are provided detailing the exact materials and equipment you need and step by step how-to's to create the piece of jewelry。 After reading this book。 I find it's a great reference in getting started in creating jewelry pieces for the first time。 The author has provided enough detail on tools materials and precautions one will need to get started。 It's simple and easy to understand。 。。。more

Great book for first timers as well as intermediates! The author goes over the directions clearly with illustrations。 I like that she explains the tools and supplies needed and where you could find them。 I learned several new things in the beading section and would like to attempt making chain jewelry as well。 I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review。

I've tried a few jewelry making techniques but mostly self taught and not always successful so this was a great book to read to go over what I think I know and learn what I should know! First Time Jewelry Making is exactly what it says on the cover。 It's an introduction to jewellery making。 Tools, materials and methods are introduced and a lot of colour photographs offer step-by-step instructions。 especially explaining certain knots。 The photographs seem a bit old fashioned, as well as some of the materials used in the pictures。 Still, the content is very informative, especially for people beginning jewellery making。 First Time Jewelry Making is exactly what it says on the cover。 It's an introduction to jewellery making。 Tools, materials and methods are introduced and a lot of colour photographs offer step-by-step instructions。 especially explaining certain knots。 The photographs seem a bit old fashioned, as well as some of the materials used in the pictures。 Still, the content is very informative, especially for people beginning jewellery making。 。。。more

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to review First Time Jewelry Making。 I enjoyed this book very much, I am not a novice at jewelry making, however, there were many things that were new to me as I read through this book, I am definitely going to sit down when I have time this summer and reread this book and try some of the techniques that the author described。

Well look no further because this is the perfect book to get you started on your jewelry making journey。 It is more comprehensive than the usual introduction to beading books and includes topics not usually included。 such as fabricating metal, metal clay and resin。 Everything is broken down into small steps and each one is illustrated with large close-up photos。 Quite frankly, I have never seen so many photos in a how-to jewelry making book。 Most importantly, I believe this book is for more than beginners because of the diverse topics and techniques。First Time Jewelry Making: The Absolute Beginner’s Guide starts with a discussion of all the tools with explanations and large photos of each。 Next is a comprehensive review of jewelry findings (earrings, clasps and connectors) and an explanation of when or why to use them。The rest of the book is divided into 6 general sections - Bead Stringing, Wirework, Chain Making, Fabricating Metal (using metal sheets and wire into jewelry without soldering), Metal Clay, and Resin。 With each section, Powley lists the materials needed, teaches all the techniques and then provides projects in order for you to learn by doing。 There are also very helpful tips throughout this book designated with a little picture of a plier。To illustrate the abundance of photos, let’s review the Bead Stringing section。 The first topic is Crimping using a crimp bead or a crimp cover。 In addition to explanatory text, there are large photos for each step — 4 photos for how to use crimp beads and 3 for crimp coverers。 Next is how to use Bead Tips and that includes 7 large photos for each step。 The third technique is Knotting and there are 7 steps with 7 photos depicting the steps for 2 strands and 4 for 1 strand necklaces。 The projects are a beautiful pearl bracelet with knots and a multiple strand floating bead necklace。The Wirework section includes how to make your own findings, such as making simple loops, wrapped loops, wire hooks and so much more。 Powley also shows how to wire wrap beads and using wire both as connectors and in design。 I am completely new to Chain Making so reading what supplies I would need as well as the step-by-step instructions with large photos for each step made me feel comfortable attempting this craft with the projects presented in this book。 The same is true for Fabricating Metal and Metal Clay。 I have dabbled in Resin before and felt this section was thorough and complete。 And while I have made beaded necklaces before, there is so much I learned from this book that will greatly improve my work。This is the most comprehensive jewelry making book i have ever seen and the abundance of large close-up photos make it the most photos visually and user friendly。 I guarantee that no matter how much jewelry you’ve made, you will learn something new in this book。Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Quarry Books and NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion。 。。。more

First Time Jewelry Making is an impressive book as it covers everything from the start to make jewelry。 It is a big book that can be considered like a bible of jewelry making as it gives extensive step-by-step explainations accompanied by photos。 It is also great when you feel like refreshing your knowledge even when you are already and advanced maker。
